Catch-44

President Obama seems to have doubled down on the culture war.

2-15-12 Politics and the Table.

Politics is the pinnacle of the power play.
Physics, Psychology and Philosophy are the base.
Culture is the result and the field of play.
Economics, values and pragmatism the material.

The Irony Leviathan.*

[I have a hecuva lot in draft as well as embedded in previous posts that need sorting, and this may be a crack at that. And to un-Ribble it is in the social Darwinism and the yo gurt! Catch-22?

Or welcome to the Rat Race?
The actual trap.
Liberal reticence an oxymoron?
The new Rat Trap?

The real catch?
(And some missed.)

*sp![Ctrl F(sic) if not SB ?]
[Bold fully read. Rat Trap in the "balanced". The "real catch" is the timing.]

2012 Grammy Awards

It was with some nostalgia that I had looked forward to seeing the Beach Boys in the up coming Grammy Awards. It was certainly unexpected to have the passing of Witney Houston to add sadness to the nostalgia. It was with appropiate irony and timing that I inaugurated my new DVD recorder by missing the Beach Boys during the previous two sentences. If you will note the anachronism, Glenn Campbell is being honored at the moment, as I have switched rooms and computers. The Boss opened with an interesting number^*^, speaking of anachronism** and honors*.

Speaking of Bowls

Ctrl F: Lean Back

The Super Bowl was played last weekend, and I did not do too much consideration of whom to root for. If I had known that NY were the underdog and thought that a name like the Giants should win, I may have rooted for them. But instead, my sister's family lives in Boston, and they were after all The Patriots. On the other hand, I heard a bit of the pregame** and heard that the sportscasters were rooting for a tie game, not*** to relate to the Republican race.*

3* Great Ledes.
Or Left* at the Dock?
Caution(*) aside, the tail is in the reading.
You can view the full clips and find that the titles*** are misleading. Although this may be a ploy to get you to read the Dock(3). George Carlin makes no mention of Ron Paul in his bit(1), and I believe that the lede for the Ron Paul piece(2) is a teaser**.

*(Carlin drops F-bombs and more in 1st link)

[*** (C**)BTW: it was not my intent plug a hole 4example]

[2-4-12: The Way We Were?]

Social Darwinism?

Is that not an inconvenient term? I know it relates to "survival of the fittest", but what is social about it? Shouldn't those that don't fit, be thrown to the wolves? Pardon my spin, but if corporations are people, what are communities? I think we are suffering from labelism and spin.

Second Spin: There seems to be something "inconvenient" about this juxtaposition, which is hard to unspin. I know it stems from "survival of the fittest", but is that not the root of being social? Unsocial Darwinism would be no more convenient. But that doesn't stop some from evolving labels and name calling.

[Speaking of Creeping, not to ding Rachel Maddow, but note the Santorum, 3F. Invisible hand anyone? What would Adam Smith say about teachers, drug companies and whose job is what. Not to confuse Popping Culture with Pope Culture. ]

Soul Dad?

It was after making this unfortunate lede* that the news of Don Cornelius's passing reached my screen. Speaking of R-E-S-P-E-C-T, no disrespect to Soledad O'Brien, but to say it is inconvenient timing, makes it sound like there could be any better. A loss of this kind is sad, but did it have to happen this month?

Child's Play

Freak Show vs. Bogeyman:

While my original intent was the feeling that this is getting old, or rather childish. Then to see the nature of the exchange on Morning Joe, it takes some perspectivising.* Martin Bashir covers another aspect of the picture show. Back to the future, I mean Morning Joe, who is in the drivers seat? Mika or Joe? The image of President Obama getting into a car at an auto show. Who is in the drivers seat? Politically the President is. But it is like one of those drivers-ed cars with a second wheel and brakes on the passenger side, and congress is in that seat. But with Batman, I mean Bashir on West, Republicans would have no message if they did not have imagined monsters: "equality of achievement", "economic dependency"and "enslaving".

So...bottom line, Political is a double-edged sword. There is the race and there is the economy. Congress plays a role in both, and negative is not just ugly, it can have actual facts. So Mika can say that Obama is behind the wheel. And Joe can say he is not. Now you may see that the president is not the only one in the car, with a hand on the wheel.

* not that I take the Mediaite perspective (Donny Deutsch made a reasonable point, see negative/ugly/facts.)
